4x4 Camper for Self-Sufficient Travel. I spent over two years converting this Ducato with a professional carpenter for extended trips to areas with little to no infrastructure and where paved roads are not a given. The conversion is beautifully and functionally designed. There is plenty of storage space in the numerous overhead cabinets, storage compartments, and cupboards. Thanks to a ceramic cooktop, you are completely independent of gas cylinders (and their various connections). In good weather, you can also cook outside with the included two-burner gasoline stove. The diesel heater is connected to the vehicle's fuel tank and therefore doesn't require any gas. The entire living area is completely soundproofed and thermally insulated. So it's comfortable in the camper even in the colder months. The thermal curtains help with insulation and completely darken the interior. This allows you to sleep in even under the midnight sun in Scandinavia ;-). ... Three solar panels with a total peak output of 540 Wp are installed on the roof. So you don't have to worry too much about electricity. And even if you do run low on power, you can recharge it while driving using the vehicle's alternator. The integrated compressor refrigerator has a 55-liter capacity and also a freezer compartment for that obligatory ice cream in summer or ice cubes for your refreshing drinks. The refrigerator is quite quiet and won't disturb you much, even while sleeping. There are four electrical outlets in the living area: two 230V outlets (CH 3-pin plugs) for common household appliances (hairdryer, laptop, electric razor, leaf blower, lawnmower, air fryer, or whatever else you absolutely need on the road ;-)) and two 12V outlets, each with two USB-A ports for mobile devices. The inverter delivers 2,000 W of continuous power, with a starting current of up to 4,000 W. The water supply is also ample, with a fresh water tank of nearly 70 liters. A silver mesh screen inside the tank prevents bacterial growth. In addition, a dual-stage water filtration system with activated carbon and membrane filters is installed. This removes impurities, germs, and even pharmaceutical residues from the water. The permanently installed boiler can produce pleasantly hot water using electricity and/or the auxiliary heater. With the external shower and the included shower tent, showering is easy even while traveling. The Ducato has four seats and up to four sleeping berths. Two people can sleep in the permanently installed bed with a slatted frame and a very comfortable foam mattress (140 x 183 cm). The skylight above the bed, equipped with a fan and insect screen, ensures a pleasant interior climate at night. Up to two children or smaller adults weighing up to 70 kg each can sleep in the cockpit in a bunk bed. This requires swiveling the front seats and installing the included pole mechanism. It takes some work, but it's doable. The second row of seats can also be removed with minimal effort if needed. A portable toilet with a bag system is also included. The air conditioning can be used in the cockpit and the interior. However, when stationary, it only works when connected to shore power. While driving, the air conditioning can be powered by the solar panels and the alternator. Meals can be eaten either with the included camping furniture (under the awning, if desired) or, in bad weather, inside at the fold-down table between the front and rear seats. The cockpit features a sound system with a subwoofer, and a smartphone can be connected to the radio. The reversing camera also appears on the radio display when reverse gear is engaged. The Ducato has a manual transmission that shifts very smoothly. Anyone who can drive a manual car can also drive this camper. Furthermore, the Ducato, at 5.5 meters long, is somewhat larger than most cars, but still manageable in traffic. A standard parking space is easily sufficient for parking. And if space is tight, the sliding door can always be used. However, due to its 2.5-meter height, parking garages and underground parking facilities must be strictly avoided. On board are various recovery tools such as a jack, air cushions (for breakdowns in sand), recovery plates, a torque wrench, a portable compressor, a shovel, an axe, a rubber mallet, a tow rope (up to 7 tons) with an eyelet, a 20-liter jerrycan, a spare tire, spare fuses, a first-aid kit, etc. A carbon monoxide detector is also installed.
